KANGRA EARTHQUAKE TRAGEDY

Sunrise Public School - Baruna organized earthquake drill in the school to prepare students and teachers for such an evantuality under the earthquake risk reduction programme. The drill was organized to pay sincere tribute to the victims of Kangra Earthquake , which happened on 4th April 1905 , where more than 20,000 people lost their lives and more than 100,000 houses & buildings were destroyed in Kangra , Dharamshala & Mcleodganj. All the students & teachers started out from their classrooms and gathered at the school compound area , where they were checked if all were safely evacuated.

The school Managing Director Shri Kulwant Rana said that , among all the facilities , children in schools are among the most vulnerable groups during any disaster and we could atleast prevent and minimise the risks to students by organizing these mock drills. This is the first & foremost step towards earthquake preparedness and the school plans to conduct earthquake drill atleast twice a year.
